Fee: $315

Schedule: Weekly

Span: Ongoing

Classical, World, and Jazz music instructors unite to create a unique and exciting repertoire at Greenwich House Music School (GHMS)! The Greenwich House Global Groove Orchestra is an exciting creation by long-time music teacher Eve Zanni, formerly of P.S. 41, who will lead this youth orchestra to combine the highest level of classical music learning with the innovation of Rhythm First Jazz and World Music whole-body learning.

All students 8-16 years of age are welcome, including students currently studying at GHMS, who may participate in the ensemble tuition free! Students will receive a half hour private or group lesson on their instruments, and also attend the 1 hour orchestra rehearsal on a weekly basis. The orchestra will be co-directed by Ms. Zanni, Juan Mayorga and Hisaichi Zimura, current GHMS percussion and strings faculty members, respectively. This team of teachers will create arrangements of world music and jazz compositions from the classical repertoire.

The Global Groove Orchestra will include marimbas, vibraphones, pianos, 2 drum kits, congas, djembes, and assorted hand percussion, plus more traditional instrumentation dependent upon enrollment.

Eve Zanni is a professional vocalist, musician, composer and the founding Director of Westbeth Music Works and the Westbeth Kids Groove Music Festival. A long time music teacher, Ms. Zanni is certified in Somatic Voicework, Kodaly and Orff techniques and was most recently the creator and leader of the Groove Cats Ensemble and Songbirds Choir at PS 41, in Greenwich Village, NYC. She has also taught at PS 278, PS 124, the Metropolitan Opera Guild, PS 6, The Earth School, Herricks High School, St. Luke’s School and the Midori Foundation. Ms. Zannie has a Bachelors of Music from Hunter’s College and a Masters of Arts from Lelsey University. She is a member of ASCAP and the Musician’s Union Local 802.
